A West Yorkshire foster carer has had the honour of meeting the King and Queen at Windsor Castle.

Marie Proctor, aged 57 from Barwick in Elmet, was invited as a recognition of her dedication and commitment to fostering children in need of a home.

Taking place on February 11, the event celebrated the vital contribution of carers throughout the country and recognized those who have gone above and beyond in supporting the sector.

Proctor was one of a select group of carers nominated for the gathering by her union, GMB, because of her tireless work within foster care.

Marie Proctor, Foster Carer, said: “It was a great event and very welcoming."

“I had the opportunity to raise the recruitment problem within foster care with both the King and Queen - the issues were met with care and understanding.

“It was really good to be able to represent foster carers and have a direct voice.”
