A woman has been jailed for 28 months, after admitting to her involvement in rioting in Harehills last summer.

34 year old Sinead Doherty is the seventh person to be jailed at Leeds Crown Court for violent disorder in relation to the incident.

This is after crowds confronted police in the Leeds suburb, setting fire to bins, as well as a double decker bus on the evening of July 18 last year.

So far 68 people have been arrested in connection with what happened. Of those 19 have been charged.

Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Steve Dodds, of West Yorkshire Police, said: “Our investigation into the appalling disorder in Harehills last summer continues at a pace as demonstrated by the number of arrests our officers have made."

“Doherty admitted carrying out some serious offending on the evening of 18 July and we are glad she has been before the courts and convicted.

“Our determination to bring everyone involved in the disorder remains absolute and I wish to stress again it is not too late for anyone who has information which could assist the investigation to come forwards.”
