Wakefield Trinity have announced the signing of former Leeds Rhinos captain Cameron Smith on a four-year deal starting from the 2027 season.

Smith, a 27-year-old loose forward, joins Trinity after leaving Leeds this week, where he has made over 160 appearances since his debut in 2016 against Huddersfield Giants.

The Pontefract-born player was appointed captain of the Rhinos during the 2024 season at the age of 25 and brings a wealth of experience to Wakefield’s young squad.

Smith said he is looking forward to the new chapter of his career, stating: “I’m really excited to be joining Wakefield next season. It’s a club with huge ambition and a clear vision for the future. I’m looking forward to being part of what’s being built here."

“However, until the end of the season, my full focus remains on giving everything I have for Leeds and finishing my time here the right way."

Wakefield Trinity Head Coach Daryl Powell said: “I am delighted that Cam has agreed to join us from next season."

"He is someone who I have been tracking since I showed him around Featherstone as a kid years ago. He is a top-line player who will fit seamlessly into how we play.

“There is no doubt we are going places as a club and this is another great signing to show that.”

Smith will work closely with Samoan International Jazz Tevaga and bolster Wakefield's options across the front and back rows.
