TransPennine Express (TPE) has issued a strong warning to passengers, urging them not to travel on several routes between northern England and Scotland as Storm Amy brings gale-force winds and severe weather conditions.
With amber and yellow weather warnings in force across Scotland and north-west England, services are expected to face significant disruption, including delays and cancellations at short notice.
The rail operator has advised customers not to travel on the following routes on today (3 October):
- Preston – Edinburgh: from 12:00
- Newcastle – Edinburgh: from 16:00
- Preston – Glasgow: from 17:00
In addition, passengers are being told to avoid travelling on these routes on the morning of Saturday, 4 October:
- Preston – Glasgow/Edinburgh: until 12:00
- York – Newcastle – Edinburgh: until 12:00
Services are expected to resume later on Saturday, but TPE is urging passengers to check before they travel.
Customers who hold tickets for affected journeys can either use them on Sunday, 5 October at no extra cost or apply for a full refund.
For all other routes on the TPE network, passengers are being advised to prepare for disruption, with delays and cancellations likely.
