Police arrest man, 20, after threatening emails sent to 'number of schools and colleges in Kirklees'

West Yorkshire Police said they are aware of emails that have been sent to a number of schools and colleges in the Kirklees District.

In a statement they said they understand that 'any communication of a threatening nature, particularly within an education setting, will be of concern but would stress that there is currently no intelligence to suggest that there is any credible threat in relation to the messages.'

Officers are now investigating this as a malicious communications offences and making further inquiries into the source of the emails, they also said a 20-year-old man has been arrested from an address in Huddersfield this morning.

Safety and security advice is being provided to schools and police are increasing high visibility patrols in the area.

Earlier today Kirklees College posted on their website:

'EMERGENCY UPDATE

'Following advice from the police, all Kirklees College centres are now in a precautionary lockdown.

'If you are currently at one of our centres, please remain where you are. A member of staff will provide further instructions.

'If you have not yet travelled into College today, please do not make the journey. All centres are closed for the rest of the day.

'We will keep you updated as soon as we have further information.

'Thank you, The Executive Leadership Team.'
