A park in Birstall is set to host a nationwide art exhibition from April.

Oakwell Hall and Country Park will see life-size reproductions of National Gallery paintings on display as part of their 'Art On Your Doorstep' project.

It included versions of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, and Monet’s The Water-lily Pond.

Community groups, alongside The National Gallery and Kirklees Museums & Galleries, have collaborated on the commentary accompanying each artwork.

Schools such as Batley High School for Girls, Ravenshall School, and the women’s walking group Friday Wanderers contributed words.

The exhibition will be free to visit from April 4 to September 30, with a total of 14 paintings to find across the estate.

Councillor Carole Pattison, Leader of Kirklees Council said:

“We are thrilled that the prestigious National Gallery has chosen Kirklees as a host for this exhibition.

“Kirklees is rich in cultural heritage and our historic Oakwell Hall couldn’t be a more appropriate setting for displaying these beautiful works of art.

“The community collaboration which has gone into this project perfectly illustrates our ethos that art is for everyone to enjoy.

“I urge everyone to visit, learn about and enjoy these magnificent paintings”.
