A murder investigation has been launched after a woman died following an attack in the Almondbury area of Huddersfield.

West Yorkshire Police were called to Fernside Avenue, in the early hours of Friday 19 December.

When they arrived they found Lisa Smith had suffered serious 'very serious head injuries.'

She died yesterday evening and a forensic post mortem will now take place to establish the cause of death.

Gareth Brook, aged, 34, of Fernside Avenue, had appeared before Leeds Magistrate’s Court on Saturday 20 December charged with Section 18 wounding with intent in relation to the attack on Lisa.

Brook was remanded in custody to next appear before Leeds Crown Court on 16 January.

Police said enquiries remain ongoing by the Homicide and Enquiry Team.
