Man dies following house fire in Leeds as investigation launched

A man has died and another woman "very poorly" in hospital following a house fire in Leeds today (20 November).

Police were called by the fire service to Hardrow Road, Leeds at 9.34am to a report of an ongoing fire affecting two adjacent properties.

Officers attended the scene and two people, a woman from the upper maisonette flat and a man from the lower one, were reported to have suffered very serious injuries.

A man, believed to be in his 60s, has died as a result of injuries sustained in the fire.

The woman, aged 68, was taken to hospital where she is described as in a very poorly but stable condition

Detective Inspector Dan Ridgeway of Leeds District CID, said: ā€œThis has clearly been a very serious and tragic incident in which a man has lost his life.

ā€œInitial enquiries into the cause of the fire are underway with colleagues from the fire service and emergency services remain on scene.

ā€œOfficers are working to support relatives of those involved and a full investigation of the circumstances of the incident will take place.ā€
