A teenager has been convicted of murder after a man was fatally stabbed with a machete inside a Leeds flat.

23 year old Saymore T Kwashira died in hospital after being found unconscious at a home on Winrose Avenue just after midnight on November 12 last year.

It was later established that 18 year old Romaine James, of Reginald Mount, was one of three people who went to the flat last night.

The group were inhaling nitrous oxide when an argument started between Saymore and James, which led to Saymore being stabbed in the next and stomach.

James then fled the scene in a taxi, which was traced to the Beeston area.

Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle, Senior Investigating Officer, said: “Saymore was a young man who has lost his life in a senseless brutal attack."

"What seems to have started out as a meet up of friends and associates has ultimately taken a deadly turn when an argument has turned violent.

“This incident shows the absolutely devastating impact that carrying weapons such as machetes can have.

"More than one family has been ripped apart by James’ choice to use the extreme levels of violence that he did that night.”
