Daniel Farke: Elland Road must not 'lose atmosphere' amid redevelopment
Leeds City Council planners gave the redevelopment plans the go ahead at a Civic Hall meeting on Thursday
Daniel Farke stressed the importance of retaining Elland Road's "unique" atmosphere after plans to increase stadium capacity to 53,000 were approved.
Leeds City Council planners gave the redevelopment plans the go ahead at a Civic Hall meeting on Thursday and work to elevate Elland Road to UEFA Category Four status will begin immediately.
Farke said: "The main topic is to extend the stadium so even more can follow and support us, so we can build even a stronger connection - if this is possible - with our supporters and community.
"But on the other hand, also not to lose our traditional charm and our unique Elland Road atmosphere.
"For that there are way more capable people who have to do the right planning and put it into real life.
"I hope we find a good balance between going into the future and having a modern stadium with top facilities, but also make sure we don't lose this traditional charm and atmosphere. That's the target."
Leeds, who are currently 16th in the Premier League, are eight points clear of the relegation zone after Wednesday night's 4-3 defeat at Newcastle, who scored twice in stoppage-time to snatch victory.
Farke has no new injury concerns before Sunday's FA Cup third-round tie at Derby, but plans to rotate his squad and while Jayden Bogle will not be risked, Sean Longstaff and teenage striker Harry Gray could be included.
