Leeds man jailed for life for murdering flat-mate in New Year's Day attack

A man has been jailed for life for murdering his flatmate in Leeds - during what's being called a 'brutal' attack which happened on New Years Day this year.
51 year old Scott Silkstone, of no fixed address, attacked 55 year old Dwayne Tuohey, who was later found unconscious by paramedics near bins outside the flats where he lived at Gargrave Court.
He will now serve at least 22 years behind bars.
During trial Leeds Crown Court heard how the pair had spent New Years Eve 2025 together going to withdraw cash at a nearby post office.
Silkstone took crutches away from Dwayne, who'd lost a leg several years earlier.
He was seen on CCTV carrying one of the crutches before its through he launched an attack on Dwayne inside his flat.
Blood was found throughout the home, including on a prosthetic leg, a crutch, a heater, a shower seat and a metal box - several of the items were used as weapons.
CCTV footage captured at around 8am on New Years Day showed Silkstone dragging Dwayne, who was by then seriously injured, from his flat and into a lift.
Dwayne was struck repeatedly as he was removed from the building, eventually being left outside in critical condition.
He later died in hospital.
In a statement from Dwayne’s family said:
“Dwayne’s murder has changed the way we see the world. It has shown us how devastating violent crime is, not only for the person whose life is taken, but also for every family member left behind.
“It has left us feeling that life can be taken cruelly and without reason the knowledge of how he died has made our grief even more painful, and the trauma we now carry will remain with us for a very long time.”
Dwayne, aged 55, was found unconscious by paramedics near bins outside the flats where he lived at Gargrave Court, Burmantofts on 1 January. He was taken to hospital but later died of his injuries.
Forensic evidence revealed a scene of extreme violence within the living room. Blood was found throughout the room and on a number of objects, including a prosthetic leg, a crutch, a heater, a shower seat, and a metal box.
Experts concluded that several of those items had been used as weapons.
Detective Inspector Jodie Hayes, of West Yorkshire Police, said:
“No sentence can ever bring back Dwayne to his loved ones.
“Silkstone carried out a horrific and vicious attack on a vulnerable man he controlled.
“He has never shown any remorse or taken any responsibility for his actions despite the overwhelming evidence against him.
“I hope today can provide Dwayne’s family with some closure, from what has been an unimaginable year for them.”
