Leeds City Council workers to strike over pay and conditions
Almost 1,000 members of Unite based at five different councils are taking action
Local government workers in Leeds have launched the first of four days of strikes in a dispute over pay and conditions.
Almost 1,000 members of Unite based in Bristol, Stoke-on-Trent, Newham, Leeds and Mid Suffolk walked out on Wednesday and will strike again on Thursday and June 23 and 24.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Local government workers have had enough. Years of poor pay increases and freezes has undermined their earnings and is driving living standards down.
“The attacks on their national agreement, designed to make them even poorer in the future is totally unacceptable.”
