Karl Darlow is hoping a “scruffy” goal can kick-start Leeds’ survival bid following two-successive goalless draws.

Leeds were held 0-0 at Elland Road by Brentford on Saturday night after last week’s hard-earned point at Crystal Palace, while Daniel Farke’s side have failed to score in their last four Premier League matches.

Darlow said: “I think sometimes you have these sort of runs, especially in the Premier League. We just need a scruffy one to go in and we’re back on our way.

“But it shows that we’ve got the steel to keep coming out with points and grinding out nil-nils when we need to. It’s better than losing so we take a point and move on.

“Probably first half, we weren’t as effective as we wanted to be, but I’d say second half – the last 20-30 minutes – there was only one team that looked like scoring.”

Brentford were without several key players through injury, including Mikkel Damsgaard, and boss Keith Andrews was delighted with the point, which lifted his side to within two of sixth-placed Chelsea.

Andrews said: “First half we could have done a bit more with what we had. Second half we were struggling to play into our front two or complete passes under pressure.

“You have to credit Leeds for what they produced in the second half, they upped their game and caused us a lot more problems. The way they attack the box is a big strength of theirs – it’s a good point.”
