A Kirklees man who raped and sexually assaulted a young girl has been jailed.

Peter Boyles (66) from Kirkburton was sentenced to 14 years in prison at Leeds Crown Court on friday (23 May) after being found guilty of serious sexual offences in the Kirklees area.

Boyles was sentenced for two offences of rape and one of sexual touching committed in the year 2018, against a victim who was just 15 years old.

She came forward and reported the offences in 2020, initiating a lengthy and complex investigation by the Kirklees District Child Safeguarding Unit.

Boyles was arrested following the report and eventually charged with sexual offences in late 2021.

He was found guilty of the offences following a trial this May.

DC Sam Smith of the Kirklees District Child Safeguarding Unit, said: “We welcome the sentence imposed on Boyles today for what were incredibly serious offences committed against a young and vulnerable victim.

“He is without doubt a committed sexual predator and thanks to the victim’s bravery is now behind bars where he belongs.

“I want to thank her for having the courage to come forwards and report the serious sexual abuse she suffered.

“We hope she can take some comfort from seeing Boyles jailed today and knowing her determination to see justice done has resulted in this positive outcome.”
