Police appeal after rape of woman on Huddersfield university campus
It happened in the early hours on Sunday
Detectives are appealing for information after the rape of a woman in Huddersfield town centre.
A woman in her 20s reported the incident to police on Sunday (March 1), saying she met the man who attacked her near McDonald's in the John William Street area at around 2am that morning.
He offered to help her get home, and they left town via Cross Church Street, stopping at a 24-hour shop on Colne Street before the assault took place.
The rape occurred in the fields on the University of Huddersfield campus, near the Barbara Hepworth building, between 3am and 4.30am.
The suspect left the victim at the scene and is described as of South East Asian ethnicity, aged 22 to 26, of medium build, 5ft 5ins tall, with brown eyes, short brown hair, and a beard.
Detective Inspector Will Denton of West Yorkshire Police said: “Multiple enquiries are ongoing today by specialist officers who are also working to support the victim.
“I want to reassure residents that serious sexual crimes are treated as absolute priority offences, and all necessary resources are being employed to investigate what took place.
“As the offence itself took place on university grounds, we are speaking with partners at the University of Huddersfield and continuing to conduct some enquiries there today. Officers will also be working to reassure students.”
Witnesses, of anyone with information, are being urged to contact West Yorkshire Police on 101.
