An inmate has been charged with assault and attempted murder after prison staff were injured in separate incidents at two top security jails.

Moroccan national Ahmed Ali Alid, 47, is to appear in court over the incidents at HMP Full Sutton, near York, on August 8, and HMP Wakefield on October 21 last year.

Counter Terrorism Policing North East said Alid had been charged with attempted murder, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and possession of an offensive weapon in a prison.

He will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Alid remains in custody in the prison estate, police said.
