A prisoner has appeared in court accused of attempting to murder another inmate at a top security prison.

Duncan Heaton, 53, appeared via videolink at Leeds Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday accused of attempting to murder David Minto at HMP Wakefield, in West Yorkshire.

The alleged attack happened on October 25 last year.

Heaton appeared for the 10-minute long hearing sat behind a desk at a room in the prison.

He was remanded in custody and the case was adjourned to Leeds Crown Court for a hearing on April 16.
