Delivering a new multi-million pound rail station for Elland is “on track, on target”, says the region’s Mayor.

The issue of Elland Rail Station receiving full business case approval from West Yorkshire Combined Authority, which is the main funder for the project using cash from the West Yorkshire-plus Transport Fund, was raised with Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Brabin by a ward councillor.

Coun David Veitch said the new station was “massive” for residents of Elland and as part of better connections envisaged by the Mayor’s regional plan.

Elland Rail Station was due to be debated by West Yorkshire Combined Authority on March 12, said Coun Veitch (Lab, Elland).

“Can you enlighten us, guarantee or assure us that full business case approval will proceed?

“Because we need that to facilitate the milestones we’ve already published,” he said.

These milestones were published last year and include “spades in the ground” 2026, completion by Christmas 2027 and hopefully trains running in 2028, said Coun Veitch.

“Will that full business case approval happen – and then will that facilitate ‘spades in the ground’ this year?” he asked.

Mayor Brabin said the station was coming to March’s meeting of West Yorkshire Combined Authority.

“We are on track, on target.

“We know it means a lot to the people of Elland.

“The business case and the delivery is on target and on schedule,” she said.

She was speaking at a question-and-answer session with councillors at a meeting of the full Calderdale Council.
