Bradford's Darley Street Market nominated for national award
The market, which recently celebrated its first anniversary of opening, will compete against six other projects in the “Leisure” category of the Architects’ Journal Awards 2026.
BRADFORD’S Darley Street Market has been shortlisted for a prestigious architecture award.
The market, which recently celebrated its first anniversary of opening, will compete against six other projects in the “Leisure” category of the Architects’ Journal Awards 2026.
The award ceremony will take place on November 26.
The Bradford Council run market was a central pillar of the former Labour administration’s city centre regeneration programme, and opened last year after numerous delays and overspends.
The three-storey market, which cost £31m, is made up of a fresh food floor, a non-food floor and Darley Street Kitchen – a floor featuring street food vendors that regularly also hosts live music and events.
Earlier this year Darley Street Market was named “Best Food Market” in the country by The National Association of British Markets.
To win another national award, the Market will have to overcome strong opposition in the Leisure category of the Architects’ Journal awards, including Tarlair Outdoor Pool Pavilion in McDuff, Scotland, Fulham Pier and Eden Mill Distillery and Visitor Centre in Guardbridge, Scotland.
Greig & Stephenson Architects, which designed the scheme, said: “At the heart of Bradford’s city-centre regeneration, Darley St. Market brings together food, trade, events and community under one roof, creating a vibrant and inclusive new civic destination.
