Coca Cola shortages threatened as workers at West Yorkshire haulage firm to strike
Workers at Lockwood Haulage Ltd in Knottingley and South Kirby are threatening to walk out over pay
Workers at a haulage firm serving West Yorkshire are due to strike, in a move Unite says could threaten the supplies of brand names like Coca Cola.
Union members at Lockwood Haulage based in Knottingley and South Kirby are to take 'all out' strike action in a dispute over pay, after 40 workers rejected a 1% backdated payrise.
Unite claims Lockwood has 'failed to resolve the issue' despite multiple meetings. We have approached the company for a statement.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: "The fact that workers have not had a pay rise in nearly three years is an absolute insult and to be now offered a measly one per cent is a further kick in the teeth."
"Moving away from yearly increases to a bonus scheme is simply another way to shortchange our members at Lockwood."
"Unite will not allow this unacceptable attack on pay and our members have our full support in their industrial action."
It's likely the strike will affect shipments from Ardagh Glass, which supplies bottles for Coca Cola, Budweiser, Stella and Heineken.
Workers are planning to walkout from September 2, unless an agreement is reached.
