Calderdale to hike council tax by almost 5% next year
Budget proposals will see Calderdale Council increase rates by the maximum allowed - without a local referendum
Calderdale residents will pay almost five per cent more in Council Tax next year, if senior councillors’ budget proposals are accepted.
The maximum – without having to hold a local referendum – rise of 4.99 per cent forms a key part of Calderdale Council Cabinet’s Budget proposals for 2026-27, which will now go out to consultation.
That sum comprises a 2.99 per cent rise in Council Tax and a further two per cent that councils are allowed to raise specifically ring-fenced for helping pay statutory adult social care costs.
In Calderdale, if the proposals remain unchanged and are ultimately approved by the full Calderdale Council when it holds its budget-setting meeting next February, the council will raise an extra ÂŁ6.4 million in income, with ÂŁ2.57 million of that specifically ring-fenced for adult social care.
If approved, these are the rates you will pay depending on the Council Tax Band your home is in – these figures are purely the Calderdale Council Tax element, with some other precepts, for example, police and fire authority levies still to be determined.
Also, if you live in an area which has a town or parish council, an additional levy will also be made for those authorities.
In purely Calderdale Council terms, it means Council Tax payers living in a Band A property will pay an extra £64.45 a year, or £1.24 a week, up to £1,356.13 from this year’s £1,291.68.
Band B Council Tax payers will pay an extra £75.20 a year or £1.45 a week, up to £1,582.15 from this year’s £1,506.95.
