West Yorkshire Mayor Tracey Brabin has announced her intention to seek a third term in the job.

The 64 year old former actress, who served at Batley and Spen MP before taking on her current role in 2021, won re-election last year.

Speaking earlier at the Labour Party Conference, Tracey said: "I'm happy to confirm standing in front of you today that I will be seeking to lead the Labour Party in the next mayoral election in West Yorkshire in 2028".

She retained her position last year, taking 50.4% of the vote.

The job was first created after a devolution deal which created the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.

The office also took over the brief of the West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner.

During her term Brabin has pushed for a new public transport system for West Yorkshire, with the 'Weaver Network' branding being unveiled earlier this year.

A new tram system is also promised for Leeds and parts of Bradford by 2028.
