A Teesside woman's been found guilty by a jury of carrying out an act that led to the death of a boy.

8 year-old Rhys Anthony Cameron died in September last year at his home in Billingham.

[urors at Teesside Crown Court heard how the boy was fatally poisoned by his mum's drug addiction medication.

41 year-old Louise Cameron was deemed medically unfit to stand trial but the court still needed to establish whether she physically carried out the act.

Today, the jury came to the conclusion that she did carry out the act. Cameron will next appear on Thursday 18th June.

Superintendent Deb Fenny said: “This is a truly tragic case which has resulted in the devastating loss of a young child who was clearly loved by so many. Our thoughts remain firmly with Rhys’ family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

“We hope that today’s outcome begins to provide the family with some answers about what happened and offers a degree of support as they continue to come to terms with their loss.

“I would also like to recognise and commend the family for the immense strength and resilience they have shown throughout these proceedings, having had to listen to the deeply distressing circumstances surrounding Rhys’ death.”

The family of Rhys paid tribute to him after his death:

“Rhys was a lovely little son, brother, nephew, grandson and friend to many who loved and knew him in the community.

“He had a cheery, funny and beautiful personality and carried a huge smile wherever he went that will forever be remembered.

“His love for listening to music, playing with his friends and toothbrushes brought joy to us all.

“To say we as a family are devastated is an understatement, Rhys will be missed more than we can ever put into words.

“We take comfort from the words of support we have received, and the love shown to Rhys as we continue to take time to come to terms with our tragic loss.”
