Apprentices to bolster workforce at British Steel's Northern mills
British Steel is set to welcome 70 new apprentices and graduates in September, focusing on developing future talent at its sites, including in Teesside.
The company will welcome 17 apprentices in electrical, mechanical, and structural roles at its Northern mills in Teesside and Skinningrove, alongside a trainee at the R&D centre in Sheffield.
This intake forms part of British Steel's wider initiative to build the next generation of steelmakers, with further apprentices starting in Scunthorpe.
This significant recruitment drive follows British Steel's nationalisation by the UK Government in July, reflecting a continued commitment to strengthening the steel industry.
Minister for Industry Blair McDougall emphasised the importance of expanding skilled workers to ensure a robust industrial future for the UK.
The Teesside apprentices will begin their training with TTE, in collaboration with Middlesbrough College Group, before gaining on-site experience.
HR Director Nick Ashton underscored the high quality of applicants and the importance of integrating these new talents into British Steel to secure a long-term workforce.
