Sunderland man jailed for Stockton house burglary

A man has been sentenced after causing damage and stealing items totalling thousands of pounds during a residential burglary in Stockton.
On 29th July this year, 38-year-old Adam Kirby, from Ringwood Square in Sunderland, entered a property on Cranleigh Road. Neighbours phoned police after becoming aware of the sound of smashing glass, as he forced entry to the house.
PD Moose and his handler rushed to the area to search for a male matching the description. They spotted a male matching the description, before giving him opportunity to stop but he kept walking away. He then ran towards an electrical compound in an attempt to escape police.
When the man tried to run again, PD Moose was able to chase and detain him. Body worn video shows the moment he was detained.
A haul of necklaces, rings and earrings amongst other items, including cash and euros, were located in Kirby’s trouser pockets and in the immediate vicinity of where he had been hiding. A Jimmy Choo purse was also recovered containing jewellery.
All of the items were returned to their owners, and Kirby was arrested and charged by Stockton CID officers.
He received a sentenced of two years and four months in prison and was fined a victim’s surcharge of £228.
