Police appeal for witnesses following incident on Yarm Lane

A murder investigation has been opened following the death of a 31-year-old man who suffered a stabbing in Stockton.

The incident occurred at around 9.50pm on 1st July on Yarm Lane, near the junction with Lawrence Street.

Paramedics treated the man at the scene before transferring him to James Cook University Hospital, where he sadly died shortly after.

Police officers have arrested a 49-year-old man on suspicion of murder, and he is currently being questioned in police custody.

Detective Chief Inspector John Bonner from Cleveland Police's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team confirmed that a policing presence remains in the area as the investigation is in its initial stages.

“I believe there will have been people in the area at the time who may have witnessed what happened or hold information which could assist our investigation," Bonner said.

He urged anyone with dash cam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage particularly from motorists travelling through Yarm Lane, Buchanan Street, or Hartington Road to contact police.
