A 21-year-old Stockton man who pleaded guilty to child sex offences has been jailed for three years and nine months.

A concerned third party made police aware on 22nd June this year of videos on the child’s phone of Alby Hunt and the youngster.

The child and family were offered support from police and partner agencies while officers made immediate attempts to locate Hunt so he could be questioned.

He was arrested the following day, interviewed and subsequently charged with:

• Causing/inciting a child to engage in sexual activity

• Engaging in sexual activity with a child

• Attempting to engage in sexual activity in the presence of a child

Hunt was detained until his first appearance at Teesside Magistrates’ Court on 25th June, from where he was further remanded.

He then attended Teesside Crown Court a month later where he pleaded guilty to the offences.

Today, 30th October Hunt returned to the same court where he received his sentence.

He will remain on the sex offenders’ register and as such he will be subject to restrictions - which our officers will monitor for any breaches.

Officer in the case Detective Constable Anna Liddle from Cleveland Police’s Protecting Vulnerable People Department said:

“Understandably this vulnerable young victim was initially fearful and reluctant to speak with police and other professionals, however the child showed great bravery in engaging with all the services and in providing us with evidence so we were able to secure charges against Hunt.

“I hope today’s outcome reassures the victim and their family that we will always take decisive action to protect children and young people from harm, while offering appropriate safeguarding and support throughout our investigations.

“Hunt should now realise that his behaviour towards this child has consequences; he will spend a period time in prison and even on his release he will be subject to restrictions and monitoring to ensure he keeps to the conditions imposed by the court.

“Finally, I would urge any victim of sexual assault to contact police as soon as they feel able – specially trained officers will listen to you, they will believe you and they will support you.”
