A man in his 60s has been arrested in Manchester as part of a murder investigation into the disappearance of a woman from Middlesbrough 28 years ago.

Donna Keogh was 17 when she vanished back in 1998, and police believe she may have been killed shortly after.

Another man in his 60s from Leeds, arrested earlier this year, remains on police bail.

A Police statement said: "A 62-year-old man was arrested yesterday (Friday 3rd July) in connection with the murder of Donna Keogh.

"The arrest took place in the Manchester area, and the man will now be interviewed in police custody.

"Earlier this year, officers arrested a 64-year-old man from the Leeds area, also on suspicion of the murder of Donna. He remains on police bail whilst enquiries continue.

"Donna was 17-years-old when she went missing from Middlesbrough in 1998. In recent months, Cleveland Police detectives investigating her disappearance and suspected murder have been carrying out enquiries in the Leeds area.

"Officers know that Donna was last seen in central Middlesbrough on Tuesday 28th April 1998 and is known to have travelled to Leeds during 1998.

"Despite an extensive and lengthy investigation, Donna’s body has never been found and it is strongly suspected she was murdered shortly after she disappeared."

Deputy Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Evan Kirtley, said:

“This morning we have made a second arrest in connection with the murder of Donna Keogh. The man remains in police custody where he will be interviewed.

“We remain in close contact with Donna’s family and they are being kept fully updated. Donna’s family have lived with unbearable uncertainty for nearly 30 years as they need answers as to what happened to Donna, and we are determined to find those answers for them.

“Somebody out there knows what happened and could tell us, in order to give the family some comfort and peace, after all this time. If you have information, please tell us. You can contact us directly or report anonymously.”
