2 people have been arrested, as investigations continue into a suspected dog attack in Redcar last week - where a 3 month old baby died.

Police say they're remaining in the Dormanstown area for now, as enquiries continue.

It follows emergency services being called to a property on Hardale Grove last Thursday, where the little girl was pronounced dead.

Upon arriving at the property, shortly after 1.30pm on Thursday 9 April, armed officers destroyed a dog on the street. Another dog located at the property was recovered by police. It has since been destroyed.

Both dogs were assessed by a specialist officer, and they have been deemed not to be a prohibited type of dog.

An investigation into the girl’s death is ongoing and at this stage officers are treating it as a result of a dog bite.

A woman, aged 31, has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect and person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control resulting in death.

A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control resulting in death. They have both been released on conditional bail.

Neither the man or woman under arrest is connected to the victim's family.
