Teesside MPs continuing calls for more resources a week on since A66 crash
Cleveland Police has been dealing with a number of incidents over recent days
MPs are continuing to call for more resources a week on since seven people died during a head-on crash on the A66 near Middlesbrough.
Cleveland Police has been dealing with a number of incidents over recent days like Grangetown's fatal house fire which they say isn't related to the collision.
Chris McDonald, MP for Stockton North, said: "Like everyone in Teesside, I was devastated when I heard the news that PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough had been killed whilst on duty in South Bank. And of course my first thought was for their family, for people in their local community who've lost loved ones.
"To the other serving officers in Cleveland Police, I know the impact it will have on them too. And also more broadly for our emergency services, for the fire service, paramedics, Great North Air Ambulance who attended the scene, an incident like this will have wide ramifications across all of our communities and I really do pay tribute to all of our emergency services.
"I know in every part of Teesside there are decent people who are getting by, getting up for work every day but then living amongst them are people who are carrying out criminal behaviour on a daily basis and it's actions like that has led to the death of these two police officers and this just can't continue, it's not acceptable and we know that part of the problem is a lack of resources.
"We know that having those increased resources work, where I've been able to work with Cleveland Police to concentrate resources in my own constituency in Stockton North, whether that's on the High Street or where we've had issues on individual estates, that concentration of resources deals with the criminal behaviour. But of course it's difficult for Cleveland Police to sustain that over a period of time."
More than 200 extra officers have already been drafted in to support Cleveland Police.
