Runners from Teesside will be joining tens of thousands of others at the world-famous Great North Run today.

60,000 people are taking on 13.1 miles from Newcastle to South Shields.

Rosie Dawson is the director of Wynyard Woodland park run in Stockton, she is running the event and said: "Just enjoy the day. It's an amazing event, it really is. There's lots and lots of people around you running for different charities, lots of people running for their own personal gains or running with family. Just enjoy it as much as you possibly can and talk to people on the way.

"I'm running the event for the first time in a few years. I've done it a few times but I'm doing it this year with my oldest daughter, her boyfriend, and his mum, so I'm really going to try and enjoy getting other people around the event, so I'm really looking forward to it.

"It'll also be great to see lots of people that I know from the running community. The running community is a fantastic social community as well as an important way of keeping fit, so I've met some of my best friend through running some events like park run but also through Billingham running club."
