Family pay tribute to 'loveable rogue' as Stockton murder investigation continues
31 year old Nathan Bushby died in hospital last week
The heartbroken family of a 31-year-old man who died following an incident on Yarm Lane, Stockton, on 1 July has today paid tribute to him.
Nathan Bushby tragically died in hospital leaving his family devastated.
In a statement, Nathan’s sister said:
“Nathan was only 31 years old when he passed away. Many of you remember him for being a cheeky and funny loveable rogue.
“Sadly, Nathan leaves behind two young daughters. He was always loyal to those he cared for especially his sister Sarah.
“We as a family are so grateful for the love and support we are receiving but we’d kindly ask that we are now given some time to grieve and try to come to terms with our loss.”
Specialist officers are supporting Nathan’s family during this difficult time and our thoughts continue to be with them.
A 49-year-old man has been charged with murder, possession of a bladed article in a public place and assault by beating of an emergency worker as well as a separate charge of sexual assault. He has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance.
Detective Chief Inspector John Bonner, Senior Investigating Officer leading the investigation, said:
“Nathan's death has left a family devastated and the impact of their loss is profound. His family continue to be supported by specially trained officers and all our thoughts remain firmly with them during this incredibly difficult time.
“I am extremely grateful to the members of the public who have already come forward and provided information to assist our enquiries. The information and support we have received from the community has been invaluable.
“Due to the fact that a criminal investigation is ongoing, I would ask the public not to speculate online as this may prejudice legal proceedings. Please also bear in mind the impact any comments could have loved ones during this extremely difficult time. Thank you for your co-operation and understanding.
“Our investigation is ongoing and it remains vitally important that anyone who witnessed the incident, or who saw events in the moments leading up to it, shares that information with Cleveland Police if they have not already done so. You might believe the information to be insignificant, however it could prove crucial.
“I appreciate that some people may feel apprehensive about coming forward or may be impacted by what they saw. I’d like to reassure anyone who contacts us that they will be treated professionally and sensitively and support is also available for those who need it.”
