Cleveland Police and partner agencies have been dealing with an incident on Crimdon Dene beach.

Late this morning, Tuesday 7th April, emergency services were called to Crimdon Dene beach where a quantity of what is believed to be WW2 ordnance had been discovered.

The items had been set alight; a member of the public sustained what are thought to be minor burns and is receiving medical treatment.

Whilst there is not currently believed to be any wider risk to the public, a cordon remains in place.

Cleveland Police say:

"We thank anyone affected for their co-operation and understanding while services deal with the situation.

"We would urge anyone who ever comes across similar items of ordnance or items/substances of unknown origin to contact police immediately with a description of the item/s and their location so we can take appropriate action."
