Cleveland Police and Crime Commissioner sets out plans and priorities for 2025

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Cleveland says one of his plans for this year is to get out and about more across Teesside to find out what people's issues are.
It is part of Matt Storey's Police and Crime Plan - the strategic document sets out his aims and objectives for his term of office until 2029.
The Plan was developed following Matt’s election in May 2024, after wide consultation with criminal justice agencies, local partners and victims of crime.
He also consulted widely with Cleveland’s communities, to ensure the Plan best meets the needs of everyone who lives, works or visits the area.
It will shape Matt’s vision of working together to build safe, strong and confident communities.
Matt’s Plan has six strategic priorities to:
• Reduce crime, anti-social behaviour and harm
• Deliver more visible and effective policing
• Improve safety for women and girls
• Ensure the right support for victims and vulnerable people
• Build trust and confidence in policing and the justice system
• Prevent offending and reoffending
The Plan will act as a strategic direction for Cleveland Police, who will now be measured on their performance against the Plan on a regular basis.
Matt held a launch event at Cleveland Police Central HQ where stakeholders and groups that assisted during the consultation period were able to see the Plan in its final form.
Matt said: “When I was elected as PCC in May, I made it my mission to speak to as many people as possible about their issues affecting communities.
“I’ve listened to residents, grass-roots organisations, agencies and the police force to gain a true understanding of how they feel about safety in Cleveland and what issues matter to them.
“My six priorities are listed in order of importance from the public and I feel they will give communities what they need – less crime, visible policing, the right support, more trust in the justice system and safer neighbourhoods for their families.
“My vision very much relies on a collaborative approach from partners to tackle crime, invest in prevention activity and ensure our neighbourhood policing teams are engaged and visible in our communities.
“The Plan I have set will require a great deal of hard work and determination, but I am confident that together we can rise to the challenge and make Cleveland an even safer place for everyone.”
