A female entrepreneur in Teesside says many women are still facing challenges if they want to start their own business but it is getting better.

British Business Bank say many are facing significant hurdles like a massive gender gap in funding, adding that female entrepreneurs made up only 32.3% of the UK's smaller business leaders in 2020, equating to less than 7,300 businesses.

Today's International Women's Day.

Max Freer, who's part of Female Founder UK in the Tees Valley, said: "We're in an era where women now have that autonomy to set up their own business. The funding investors are primarily perhaps not looking at the 'sheconomy' which is huge and as we've progressed through the last 20 years, we've got technology now.

"Technology is really affording women the opportunity to move into a business to consumer space and to create brands and products that really connect with other women. The main objective for women setting up their own business is a lack of investment into their ideas."
