Family of PC Tom Clough pay tribute following his death in A66 crash

The family of PC Tom Clough have paid tribute to the Cleveland Police officer, who was one of seven people killed in a collision on the A66 near Middlesbrough.
PC Clough, aged 38, was killed along with fellow officer PC Matthew Blades, 37, when their police vehicle was struck by a Volkswagen Passat travelling the wrong way on the dual carriageway Saturday morning.
All five in a Volkswagen Passat—Cole Robert Worthy, Theo Rae, Makai Saddington, Michael Robert Cahill, and Jacob Matusiak— also died at the scene.
In a heartfelt statement, PC Clough's family described him as "heroic" and praised his willingness to help others and his dedication to public service.
They thanked the community for the "overwhelming support and condolences" they have received during this difficult time.
Collision Investigation
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is investigating the crash.
The incident occurred after Cleveland Police had aborted the pursuit of a vehicle suspected of having cloned plates just moments before the collision.
The Passat, with five occupants aged between 17 and 23, collided head-on with the police vehicle.
IOPC Response
Derrick Campbell, IOPC director of engagement, extended his condolences and acknowledged the impact on the police force and wider community.
He stated, "We have obtained initial accounts of officers involved in the pursuit, the incident log and in-car footage of the incident. Work is ongoing to obtain additional material."
