Wiltshire Towns Programme boosts local economy with further investment
Funding allocated to strengthen communities and support growth
Wiltshire Council's Cabinet has endorsed the growth of the Wiltshire Towns Programme and approved further investment plans for communities across the county.
The programme, launched to bolster town centres and local economies, has funded projects in 22 communities, including Salisbury and surrounding villages, enhancing footfall and supporting businesses.
Over four years, numerous events such as the Taste of Salisbury Food Festival, Calne markets, and Chippenham's pop-up park have received backing.
These contributions have led to improved economic performance, with Westbury, Melksham, Trowbridge, and Salisbury demonstrating notable growth.
The Cabinet has sanctioned the 2026/27 delivery plan, delegating budget allocation to the Director of Planning, Economy and Climate, alongside Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Cllr Helen Belcher.
The £700,000 plan includes allocations for:
- £70,000 to support Wiltshire's food and drink sector through Wiltshire Marque
- £250,000 for cultural activities and vacant shop unit programmes
- £80,000 for town centre workspace upgrades
- £200,000 for tourism economy support via Visit Wiltshire
- £50,000 to promote county investment through Invest In Wiltshire
Cllr Belcher said the programme significantly benefits local towns by boosting footfall, encouraging investment, and maintaining lively town centres.
