Parking charges consultation in Wiltshire closing soon
Council urges residents and businesses to share their views
Wiltshire Council is encouraging residents, businesses, and local organisations to share their opinions on proposed parking charge changes, with only a few days left before the consultation closes.
The consultation, part of the statutory Traffic Regulation Order process, will end on Tuesday, 5th May.
The proposed changes come after a comprehensive review to ensure tariffs align with Wiltshire Council's Local Transport Plan 4 and its Parking Sub-Strategy.
Parking charges have not been updated since 2022, despite a 20% rise in the Consumer Prices Index and increasing operational costs.
The proposals include a 20% rise in parking charges in 2026, followed by an additional 5% increase in 2028, extending charging hours to 7am-7pm, aligning Sunday charges with weekday tariffs, reintroducing Sunday on-street parking fees in Salisbury, and adjusting season ticket and permit fees according to tariff changes.
Cllr Martin Smith, Cabinet Member for Highways, emphasized the need for public participation: "This consultation closes soon, and we are reminding anyone who has not yet taken the time to have their say to do so now," Smith said.
He added, "Parking charges have remained unchanged since 2022, despite significant inflationary pressures during that time. These proposals aim to ensure our parking services remain fair, sustainable and broadly in line with charges in neighbouring authorities."
