Thermo Fisher Scientific, a leading global life sciences company, has demonstrated its support for Swindon by raising a 'Swindon: Make it Here' flag at its Kingfisher Drive headquarters.

The flag-raising ceremony, attended by Swindon Borough Council Leader Councillor Jim Robbins and senior Thermo Fisher representatives, highlights the company's commitment to local innovation, skills, and investment.

This gesture signifies Thermo Fisher's dedication to Swindon and aligns with the Council's initiatives to attract new jobs and enhance prosperity in the town.

Councillor Jim Robbins expressed his pleasure at Thermo Fisher's support.

He said: "Thermo Fisher is a pillar of Swindon’s advanced manufacturing and life sciences community, and I’m delighted to see the company flying the ‘Swindon: Make It Here’ flag.

"This public show of support underlines its confidence in our town, our people and our shared future."

With over 50 years in Swindon, Thermo Fisher has been integral to the town's life sciences sector.

The site originally operated as French pharmaceutical company Roussel Laboratories, later part of Patheon, and acquired by Thermo Fisher in 2017.

Colin Drummond, General Manager at Thermo Fisher’s Swindon site, emphasised the company’s investment in local growth.

He said, "Swindon has been our home for more than 50 years, and the strength of our skilled workforce continues to play a vital role in our success."

Since 2020, the Swindon site has invested $200m toward manufacturing critical vaccines and pharmaceutical drugs within its 300,000 sq ft facility, employing nearly 400 people.

Thermo Fisher is actively recruiting to expand its workforce, planning to create up to 100 additional jobs over the next five years.
