Swindon council collaborates with police to enhance town centre safety
Public Spaces Protection Order aids antisocial behaviour reduction
Swindon Borough Council has emphasised its commitment to enhancing town centre safety by addressing antisocial behaviour through collective efforts with Wiltshire Police and community partners.
On 30th July, councillors, Wiltshire Police, and the Council's Community Safety team convened with businesses, residents, and community organisations to discuss challenges impacting Swindon town centre.
Swindon Police remain proactive in utilising powers from the town centre and Broadgreen Public Spaces Protection Order, issuing 80 Fixed Penalty Notices since its establishment.
These measures tackle issues such as street drinking, public urination, and unsafe use of bikes, e-bikes, and e-scooters.
The meeting was part of ongoing efforts by the Community Safety Partnership, designed to deliver cohesive solutions while preparing for the Big Town Centre Clean-Up scheduled for August.
The Clean-Up event aims to improve the town centre's environment through graffiti removal, deep cleaning, paving repairs, and weed clearance.
Swindon's focus on collaboration highlights a shared responsibility across council teams, police, businesses, and community groups to foster a safer, more welcoming town centre environment.
