Residents of Swindon's Hatherleigh Court and Seagry Court have shared varying sentiments regarding fire safety after recent assessments identified these tower blocks as having higher risks.

Earlier this year, fire safety reviews on Swindon Borough Council's six high-rise buildings revealed classifications of high, medium, and low risk.

While issues include insufficiently maintained emergency lighting systems, faulty fire doors, and absence of fire dampers, housing officers have reportedly engaged with residents, providing assurances and assistance.

Long-term resident Helga Sincliar from Hatherleigh Court expressed confidence in the housing officers' supportive efforts.

She said, “They came out right after the Grenfell fire and checked everything really thoroughly, so I’ve not been worried.”

Sincliar appreciated personalized support, ensuring safe evacuation in the event of an emergency.

Conversely, another Hatherleigh Court resident, a mother of two, expressed anxiety after reading about the risks.

She noted worries about swift evacuation, citing disability-related concerns for herself and her child.

At Seagry Court, a resident felt reassured by the proactive communications from housing officers, highlighting satisfactory follow-up processes.

The engagement demonstrates attempts to address residents' needs while prioritizing safety protocols.

The mixed reactions emphasize the importance of continued scrutiny and management of fire safety within the high-risk housing facilities.

Swindon Borough Council’s housing officers strive to maintain transparency and bolster community trust, ensuring necessary assistance channels are in place.

These dialogues reflect both critical resident concerns and commendations for proactive management, as fire safety remains under local examination.
