Swindon bus interchange celebrates first anniversary with praise from operators
Fleming Way scheme hailed for enhancing passenger experience and service reliability
As the Fleming Way bus interchange marks its one-year anniversary, Swindon’s major bus operators are lauding the scheme for its positive impact on passenger experience and service reliability.
Since its opening on 30th August 2025, the £33 million redevelopment has transformed public transport access into Swindon’s town centre, replacing the outdated former bus station.
The interchange offers accessible bus shelters with real-time information screens, accommodating over 30 local and regional routes as well as a dedicated space for National Express.
The scheme also includes segregated cycle lanes, connecting Swindon’s main cycling routes and providing regularly used cycle racks.
Artistic enhancements around the interchange further enrich the locale, with vibrant murals by artists HazardOne and Squiggly Ink integrating seamlessly with the site.
Beyond improving transport infrastructure, the project has spurred private sector investment and development possibilities.
FI Real Estate is substantially investing in adjoining Tri-Centre buildings, while the government has committed £20 million to fund a proposed entertainment venue on the former bus station site, pending business case approval.
The interchange has witnessed over three million bus journeys, underscoring its central role in Swindon’s transport network.
Councillor Nick Gardiner, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, called Fleming Way a success story of the past year, noting its contribution to town centre development.
Stagecoach Operations Manager, Raj Chandha, praised the facility’s transformation, highlighting improved infrastructure and reliability for users.
Stagecoach further cemented its local presence with the opening of its new Travel Hub on Fleming Way.
Dave Hall, Operations Manager at Swindon’s Bus Company, commended the hub's success in boosting accessibility, safety, and convenience for passengers.
These advancements underscore the interchange’s pivotal role in strengthening Swindon’s transport framework.
