A major fire incident has been stood down in Swindon and an investigation is underway.
This comes as emergency services were called to Groundwell Industrial Estate around 7.30pm last night (24th September) to reports of an explosion.
Police and fire services spent several hours at the scene.
A Wiltshire fire spokesperson said: "Firefighters have remained on scene throughout the night, dampening down and monitoring the incident.
"Three crews remain on scene this morning. An investigation into the cause of the fire will continue today."
Jim Robbins, the leader of Swindon borough council, posted on social media that "all buildings except some of immediately affected businesses should have power restored by now and schools and care homes in the area should operate as usual. Air quality in the area is normal."
Swindon police released a statement at the time of the incident: "An explosion has occurred in one of the industrial units and we are working alongside colleagues from the ambulance and fire service to make the area safe.
"A large cordon is in place and Cricklade Road between Queensfield and Thamesdown Drive is currently closed.
"Members of the public who live nearby should stay inside, close all windows and avoid the area of the industrial estate for their own safety.
"We are working to evacuate the immediate area of the industrial estate but there is no need for residential dwellings to evacuate."
Jim Robbins has thanked emergency services for their response: "Want to pay huge tribute to the emergency services and Council response teams who stepped up quickly and effectively. Really impressive…"
Will Stone, the Labour MP for Swindon North, has also sent his thanks to the emergency services and says he's incredibly pleased no casualties have been reported.
