Councillor Gary Sumner recently toured TEKEVER's new facility at the Spectrum building in Swindon, witnessing the significant advancements the pan-European technology firm is making toward advanced drone production and artificial intelligence capabilities in the UK.

TEKEVER's Swindon site is set to be fully commissioned in August, with operations slated to commence in September.

During the visit, Sumner met with TEKEVER’s Corporate Director Scott McClelland, discussing plans for job creation and cooperation with New College Swindon to develop curriculum pathways and student placement opportunities.

McClelland shared the firm’s evolution from a technology company to a defence sector contributor, aiming to employ agile manufacturing at Swindon as a template for future global factories.

Swindon was chosen for its growing reputation as a centre for Unmanned Aircraft Systems innovation, joining firms such as Flyby Technology, Munin Dynamics, and STARK.

TEKEVER's Swindon site is expected to become its main manufacturing facility in Europe, supporting skilled employment in the region.

Swindon Borough Council's Inward Investment team, aided by Swindon North MP Will Stone, has been successful in attracting key players like TEKEVER. UK Company iCOMAT recently joined, creating 75 new jobs in composites and lightweight component development.

Sumner highlighted the town's rapid emergence as a leading centre for drone manufacturing, acknowledging the positive impact on local job creation and the economy.

“Our town is quickly establishing itself as one of the UK’s leading centres for Unmanned Aircraft Systems manufacturing, attracting world-class companies and creating highly skilled jobs for local people,” Sumner said.

McClelland expressed optimism regarding TEKEVER’s expansion in Swindon, adding, “Swindon is becoming an increasingly important part of TEKEVER’s UK growth story.”

Both TEKEVER and Swindon Borough Council aim to continue collaborating to enhance the region's defence and uncrewed systems sector.
