A company based in Wiltshire is using a local college facility to boost the skills of trade professionals.

Chippenham-based Luthmore, which has created a zero-emission, battery-enabled boiler, wants to drive more sustainable energy solutions in the UK.

The technology could help ease reliance on oil and gas, which can be subject to price fluctuations, as seen during the height of the Middle East conflict in early 2026.

It produces the same performance as a gas combi boiler, but without the carbon footprint as it is powered by renewable energy sources, such as solar.

Luthmore has set up a training academy at Wiltshire College and University Centre's Lackham Campus, to get professionals up to speed with the new technology.

CEO, Herve Dehareng, said: "It's a new technology and it's very important for us that the trade and our partners in installation understand exactly how to explain the technology, how to sell the technology how to install it perfectly and then service it."

He added that seeing the group of individuals, who are from across the country and have many years of experience in their profession, eager to continue learning, is inspirational.

"It's fantastic for us to close this loop of learning with experienced professionals but in an environment where new students also learn the trade," he said.

We spoke to Seb, who was among those taking part in the training.

He told us that there is a shortage of companies able to install such technology.

"In the UK currently, I'd say the training generally is still very specific towards gas and oil boiler installations," Seb said, adding that the push for decarbonisation can leave restricted options, if a heat pump isn't suitable for a home.

He added that it would benefit homes to have the opportunity to move away from gas and oil powered heating systems, making households energy secure, as well as using cleaner sources.

Luthmore is taking its product to the Installer Show in Birmingham next week to give more traders the chance to learn about it and potentially offer it to more homes across the country.
