Jury told Chippenham teenager was fatally stabbed in attack filmed on mobile phone

A teenage boy filmed himself fatally stabbing a schoolboy in Wiltshire in a “ruthless and remorseless” attack, a jury heard.
Shayne Hambakachere, 16, was found seriously injured on London Road in Chippenham, , at about 4pm on January 31.
He was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol but died from a single stab wound, which had penetrated his heart.
A 16-year-old boy, who cannot be identified because of his age, denies murder and is on trial at Bristol Crown Court.
Prosecuting, Sarah Jones KC opened the case against the defendant to the jury of eight men and four women on Tuesday.
She described how there was “tension” between Shayne and the boy, who arranged to meet in an alleyway.
“The defendant videoed himself before the meeting, posing with a knife – the actual knife that was used in the stabbing,” Ms Jones said.
“He slices it through the air in front of the camera and boasts ‘bare sharp – I’m going to be slicing’.
“There is such gleeful anticipation, such swagger as he poses.”
The court heard the defendant then filmed himself meeting Shayne and stabbing him moments later.
Ms Jones warned jurors that the video was “distressing” and “shocking” to watch because of the speed of the stabbing.
Footage played to the court begins with the camera pointing at the defendant’s shoes as he waits for Shayne.
“As Shayne appears, evidently unarmed and alone, the onslaught from the defendant is immediate,” Ms Jones said.
“He brandishes the knife – the one he was posing with earlier.
“Shayne appears stunned. He tries to grab hold of the defendant’s arm which is holding the knife, but quickly recoils and then speedily backs away with both hands held up, palms facing the defendant.
“The defendant jabs forcefully with the knife, moving forward towards Shayne, and the blade makes contact, with a noise as it hits him in the middle of the chest.
“Shayne brings his hands to his chest, exclaiming in pain, as he turns and runs off.”
Shayne, a year 11 schoolboy at Hardenhuish School in Chippenham, ran to a nearby road where he collapsed on the pavement.
Emergency services attended, and Shayne told a police officer that the defendant had stabbed him.
He was pronounced dead at 9.37pm the following day.
Jurors were told that the defendant initially denied any involvement in Shayne’s death but was now claiming he acted in self defence.
Ms Jones said: “The most senseless destruction of two young lives – the ending of Shane’s life and the removal of the defendant’s immediate future prospects.
“But it could not be clearer that the defendant was not acting in self defence – he was on the attack and he acted with ruthless and remorseless determination.”
The court heard it was not clear why Shayne and the defendant had fallen out.
On January 19, Shayne said he had been robbed of cannabis and a knife by the defendant – who later sent a photograph of himself smoking what appears to be cannabis.
Ms Jones told jurors that on the day of the killing, Shayne sent the defendant a message to arrange for them to “sort all of this out with fists” and went to his home address.
The defendant later told Shayne to meet him in an alleyway in Chippenham.
After the stabbing, the defendant is alleged to have run to a derelict building and discarded the knife.
Police recovered the weapon, with blood on the blade matching Shayne’s and DNA on the handle matching the defendant’s, the court heard.
A post-mortem examination found Shayne had died from a single stab wound to the left side of his chest, which passed through the chest wall and into his heart.
The defendant denies murder and his trial, expected to last for two weeks, continues.
