Firefighters battle hay bale blaze on Hackpen Hill near Swindon

Emergency services are managing a significant fire involving around 250 hay bales on Hackpen Hill near Swindon.
The fire began at approximately 9.32am on 1st August, prompting crews from Westlea, Swindon, and Marlborough to attend the scene.
Firefighters are using hose reels and farm machinery to tackle the blaze and create a firebreak to prevent its spread.
The public is urged to stay clear of the area, ensuring access routes remain open for emergency vehicles.
Wiltshire Police have been called to assist the ongoing efforts.
Updates indicate that as of 2nd August, one fire engine remains on site with area monitoring and continued operations to manage remaining hotspots.
The crew will be present throughout the morning today to oversee the situation.
Authorities continue to ask walkers and cyclists to avoid the vicinity while firefighting work is underway.
