Fire crews tackle blaze in 100 tonnes of waste near Calne

Residents urged to keep windows shut due to smoke

Fire crews have been battling a blaze involving approximately 100 tonnes of household waste at a recycling centre near Calne, Wiltshire.

The Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service responded to the fire at Compton Bassett at 16:58 yesterday (15/06).

Around 10 engines had been deployed to the scene, including multiple pumps and two water carriers.

Residents living close to the area have been advised to keep their doors and windows shut as the fire generates a significant smoke plume.

Calne Fire Station said: “We are dealing with a fire at a recycling site in Compton Bassett which is creating a smoke plume.

"Affected local residents are advised to keep doors and windows closed until the smoke has cleared.”
