Corsham couple raise over £100,000 for neonatal unit in memory of twins
Nick and Libby Powell turn grief into fundraising for Southmead Hospital
A couple from Corsham have raised over £100,000 for Southmead Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in memory of their twin sons, Lando and Rafferty Powell.
Nick and Libby Powell embarked on their fundraising journey after the premature birth of their sons at 23 weeks at Bristol's Southmead Hospital on 25th July 2024.
The twins passed away shortly after their birth with Lando dying at 11 days old and Rafferty following three days later.
The Powells wanted to honour the hospital staff's care and compassion by supporting the Bristol and Weston Hospitals Charity.
Through various fundraising events and generous donations, they managed to collect £114,000 to help fund life-saving equipment for premature babies.
Fundraising Efforts
Nick and Libby have organised several events, including a 13 Mile Walk on 11th June 2026 from the Montgomery Group to Excel London.
A Three Peaks Challenge is scheduled for 11th-12th July 2026.
This involves climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon within 24 hours.
A key sponsor has pledged to match donations for the event up to £70,000.
The couple's initiative is not only helping to purchase vital equipment but is also making a significant impact on the lives of many families across South West England.
A Tribute to Lando and Rafferty
Nick and Libby expressed their gratitude towards the NICU team, acknowledging that their care gave them precious moments with their sons.
Despite the twins' short lives, the Powells hold dear the memories of being able to hold and care for them.
The fundraising page states that all donations go towards funding equipment and resources for Southmead Hospital, benefiting numerous babies and families referred there.
As they continue their fundraising efforts, Nick and Libby emphasise the importance of supporting neonatal care and creating a legacy for their sons.
