Blood Bikes deliver life-saving donor breast milk to Great Western Hospital

Volunteers from Blood Bikes have been praised by Great Western Hospital for their vital deliveries of donor breast milk, blood, plasma, and organs to the hospital in Wiltshire.
The support is crucial for the hospital's neonatal unit, which currently cares for six pairs of twin babies in need of donor breast milk.
Such deliveries are essential in improving the survival chances of premature babies, especially those born before 32 weeks.
Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust expressed their gratitude for the invaluable support:
“Amazing! Donor breast milk is life-saving for many of our smallest and youngest patients. A huge thank you to the Blood Bikes volunteers for travelling the length and breadth of the country to deliver essential blood, plasma, organs and donor milk to hospitals.”
The importance of donor breast milk in neonatal care was highlighted by Blood Bikes NICU Support:
“Total joy from Alyssa as another urgent delivery was taken to Wiltshire's Great Western Hospital by NICU Support as GWH currently have six sets of hungry twin babies all requiring much needed DBM. Donor breast milk is critically important to poorly and premature babies, as it can double their survival chances if born before 32 weeks.”
